Kerio Connect Administration

Groups

User groups and their use are focused in  the manual.

Creating new groups

New groups can be defined under Groups. The Add button opens a simple configuration wizard:

  1. On the General tab, define a name for the new group. You can use any name, but we recommend to define a short name which clearly reflects purpose of the group.

Another entry to be specified is Description. It is optional, recommended to use for better reference especially if you create many groups. Good descriptions make group lists well organized and easy-to-use.

By checking the Publish in Global Address List option, you will add the name and email address of the group to the public Contact folder which is used as the company's internal address list.

  2. The E-mail Address tab allows setting of group address(es). You can set any number of address. There is also the option of no address assigned to the group (unlike user accounts, the group address is not created automatically from the group name and domain where the group is defined).

  3. On the Users tab, you can add existing users to the group. Simply click on Add and select users.

  4. On the Rights tab, you can set access rights for Kerio Connect Administration.

By checking the Members of this group can send/receive email to/from its domain only option, you can narrow the traffic of this group to the local level. This can be useful for internal communication settings in many companies. Users will not be able to send emails to any other domain or to the Internet.

    No rights

The users in the group will not be granted any administration rights

    <your.domain> accounts

The user will be granted administration rights for user accounts, groups, aliases, mailing lists and resource in the domain their account belongs to. For more information, see the manual.

    Whole server read only

All users in the group will be granted access rights to all accounts on the server without being allowed to edit them.

    Whole server read/write

All users in the group will be granted administration access rights to all accounts created in Kerio Connect

    Warning

If you are not sure why this option should be checked, leave it disabled. This option restricts sending of email out of the company and it is helpful only if you need to keep extremely strict communication rules across the company.

Editing groups

Any items of a group can be changed easily, apart from the group name. To change settings, click on the Edit button in the lower part of section Groups.

The button opens a dialog with various tabs where particular settings can be changed. If not sure about any option, read their descriptions in Creating new groups.

Removing groups

Groups can be simply deleted by the Remove button.

Note

Groups including user(s) with full administration rights for Kerio Connect cannot be removed.
