For details on POP3 download, refer to the manual.
Downloading of POP3 accounts can be administered in on the POP3 Download tab. To define remote mailboxes for selection, go to Accounts. To create a new item, click on . This opens a dialog with two tabs. With the General tab, set the basic parameters for accessing the mailbox and the delivery method for the downloaded email:
The DNS name or IP address of the POP3 server where the mailbox is located
The username and password for the mailbox.
Any text description of the POP3 account
All messages from the mailbox will be sent to a single address. Here you can enter a local user, a local group, an alias or an external email address. You can choose the local user or group from a list using the button. This dialog allows to search for a specified string and specify the settings for the case-sensitivity.
Messages from this mailbox will be sorted according to the sorting rules.
The primary header entry that will be used for sorting. You can either specify a header (name without a colon) or select one from the predefined items. If the entry is not found in the mail header or no address complies with any rule, other header entries are searched — Resent-To and Resent-Cc, To and Cc. If an address is not found in these entries the message will be delivered according to an implicit rule (described below) or will be discarded.
If a message is delivered to a domain mailbox where the message header includes multiple recipients belonging to the domain in question, it is duplicated. If this option is enabled, copies of such message will be dropped and the message will be delivered to the particular mailbox only once.
You can define the following parameters with the Advanced tab:
The connection with the POP3 server will be encrypted by SSL.
The security method for communication with the POP3 server. Options: Special port (the SSL connection will be established on a port different from a standard POP3 port) or STLS command (first, a non-encrypted connection will be made and once it is established it will be switched to an encrypted mode using the STLS command). Contact the POP3 server administrator for more information about securing communication with the POP3 server.
TCP port for connection between the recipient and the sender server. Set a port which uses a sender POP3 server.
The POP3 server authentication method: Plain (the password is sent in its normal form) or APOP (the password is encrypted to prevent tapping and misuse). Contact the POP3 server administrator for more information.
Limit total message size to — this entry enables specification of a maximal total size of messages downloaded within one POP3 session. The zero value means that no limit has been set.
Limit max. message count to — The maximum number of messages that will be downloaded during one connection (if there are more messages at the server they will be downloaded in the next session). The zero value means that no limit has been set.
The total message size limit protects the user from repeated downloads of identical messages in cases where POP3 session was interrupted.
In Sorting rules, you can define how messages downloaded from a remote POP3 mailbox will be delivered to and distributed among local users or forwarded to external email addresses.
Email address that will be searched for in the selected message header entry. It must be complete; a substring is not acceptable.
This entry defines the recipient of the message complying with the rule. You can enter a local user, a local group, an alias or an external email address.
To deliver messages to groups, you must assign addresses to these groups (or you can create an alias).
Any text describing the sorting rule. It is recommended to define this item especially if you want to handle multiple rules.
In addition to adding, removing and changing POP3 accounts and rules, this tab allows immediate start of POP3 download. The button can be used for this purpose.
For details on ETRN download, refer to the manual.
To set ETRN download, go to section , the ETRN Download tab. Use the button to add a new server:
The DNS name or IP address of the server
A list of domains for which the server stores email. Separate individual domains using a semi-colon (;).
A commentary on the ETRN server definition. May be left blank.
Enable this option if the server requires username/password authentication.
Appropriate user name and password
The tab allows users to set the maximum delay time of dial-up line response.
The button allows to download mail immediately out of the scheduled download events.
Internet connection and its use are focused in the manual.
Internet connection of Kerio Connect can be handled in on the Internet connection tab:
Kerio Connect is permanently connected to the Internet. Outgoing mail is sent immediately.
The server is not permanently connected to the Internet. Outgoing mail is stored in a queue and is sent in time intervals set in the Scheduler.
This option can be useful for example if Kerio Connect is running on a host in the local network connected to the Internet by a dial-up line. In the Online mode frequent and uncontrollable requests for dial-out will be made. In the Offline mode Kerio Connect will request a dial-out only in the time intervals set in the scheduler, which helps optimize connection costs.
This option allows to dial the line within time intervals scheduled to send and receive email.
This option and its settings are unavailable unless Kerio Connect is installed on MS Windows. This option is not supported in Linux and Mac OS X systems.
The dial-up connection must be created for all users within the system (this can be defined within definition of an appropriate connection).
In the menu, select a corresponding dial-up connection created in Windows.
Kerio Connect will use authentication data that you have set for the corresponding dial-up connection.
Username and password can also be specified manually in this dialog.
If a high-priority message is delivered to the queue, the line gets dialed and the queue is processed immediately.
For details on email download to Kerio Connect, see the manual.
Scheduler can be set under , on the Scheduling tab. To create a new scheduled event, open the corresponding dialog by clicking on :
An optional item which becomes useful especially if multiple events are scheduled. The description makes the configuration items easier to refer to.
You can choose from two conditions:
Every — the action will be applied every time when the set time interval expires. For example “Each 10 minutes” calls the action every 10 minutes.
At — the action will be repeated in the specified time. For example the “At 12:00” value executes the action every day at 12 o'clock.
Scheduled action is valid only in a selected time interval. To define time ranges, go to (see chapter Time Ranges).
This option sends all queued messages. Enable this option if you set the offline delivery on the Internet connection tab.
Receiving messages from POP3 mailboxes. Enable this option if at least one remote mailbox is defined on the POP3 download tab. The same scheduling applies to all POP3 mailboxes.
Receive email using ETRN command. Use scheduling if there is at least one SMTP server defined on the ETRN download tab. The same scheduling applies to all SMTP servers.
Dials out a connection if the line is currently down. If this option is not ticked, the task will only be performed when the line is dialed out.
